History and Milestones
The story of Intelligent Management Group began in 1997, when a small, visionary team in Yerevan established EFES Insurance. With fewer than 10 employees, the company carried a bold mission: to help Armenians face life’s uncertainties with dignity, professionalism, and trust, guided by international best practices.
By 2003–2004, EFES had become part of an international insurance group. This partnership opened access to global knowledge, tools, and standards, connecting Armenia’s emerging insurance sector with the world’s leading practices. It was a turning point that shaped both EFES’s identity and Armenia’s financial landscape.
In 2023, EFES Insurance was re-established with a revitalized brand, a digital-first business model, and cutting-edge products, blending its heritage with an innovative spirit. Today EFES has grown into a team of over 200 professionals, many among the region’s most experienced insurance experts. Over 28 years, EFES also built a powerful alumni community - former colleagues now leading businesses, universities, and C-suites across Armenia - spreading the Group’s culture of excellence far beyond its own walls.
In 2005, the team expanded into healthcare by launching a small clinic, MedAssist, to complement its insurance activities. What began with a dozen doctors offering assistance services gradually grew and rebranded into the Vardanants Center for Innovative Medicine. Today, Vardanants unites more than 400 physicians across multiple branches in Yerevan and the regions, making it one of Armenia’s leading private healthcare institutions.
From fewer than 10 employees in 1997 to over 800 professionals across insurance and healthcare today, Intelligent Management Group has become a story of resilience, reinvention, and responsibility. Its vision: to protect lives, empower communities, and shape a healthier, more secure Armenia.
Meanwhile, our team wasn’t only building institutions – we were transforming Armenia’s insurance system itself. The Group Leadership played a central role in introducing Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability (CMTPL), developing agricultural insurance, drafting key legislative frameworks, and bringing international reinsurers such as SCOR, Generali, Swiss Re, and Munich Re into Armenia. Our team has also strongly contributed to the introduction of the mandatory insurance for state employees, developing the ArMed national digital health platform, and enacting public health policies such as anti-smoking laws.
These initiatives reflect the Group’s guiding philosophy: building systems that protect not only individuals, but society as a whole.
